1. Flying Squid
Can squids fly? No this seems to be stupid, but yes they can and they can glide in the air just like flying fish. They have evolved this gliding ability to dodge animal predating on them. This specie of gliding squids is under study by the scientists.
2. Gliding Ants
You might be thinking what’s strange in this because ants are insects and they do fly but these gliding ants do fly without wings. They are protective and try to camouflage as well as they fall from trees, they focus on the lighter color of the trunk against the darker forest background, and then flatten their head, legs and abdomen and then glide from free-fall to a J-shaped flight, and then grasp the tree. However their flight is not perfect as flying without wings definitely cost.
3. Mobula Ray
Mobula Ray are a bit smaller than Manta Ray and have surprising gliding ability, as they can fly as high as 6 and a half feet out of the water. Their flight is truly spectacular but if you are traveling in ocean then these gliding heavy Mobula can also prove fatal as some cases has witness it.
4. Flying Fish
Now the specie that is going to hold your nerves in this list is flying fish. Instead of gliders that we have talked about in the trees or land this creature lives in ocean and look terrific as gliding through 160 feet out of water. They are the world’s longest gliding animals, as they can remain suspended in the air for very long time and can cover 1300 feet at a speed of 42 miles per hour. They can fly up to 20 feet vertically in the air that is truly amazing.
5. Flying Frogs
This specie is also called as tree-dwelling tropical frogs that have evolved from a line of several frogs. They have developed their gliding abilities as a means of dodging their predator, but still this creature does not look horrible but in fact curious. This flying frog creature is present in forests of Malaysia and Indonesia.
6. Flying Snake
Flying snakes are inhabited at the same place where you can find flying Lemurs and Flying Lizards. If you are afraid of snakes then never go to the places of South East Asia and Indonesia where “mildly venomous” i.e. poisonous snakes, that don’t harm humans, look really like some Halloween’s deadly creature that can scare you badly.
7. Flying Lizards
You might become shocked to see lizards in the list of flying animals but yes one of the Indonesian lizards of the genus Draco can wonder you as it can fly as far as 195 feet while only losing 30 feet in height from the initial jump. They don’t have loose skin etched with their upper, lower limbs and tail but however they extended their ribs to soar in the air.
8. Flying Lemurs
Lemurs were once known as earliest ape living on earth and they are also named as Colugos that are much similar to Bats as they are also mammals and glides like Bats. The phrase “air sailing horror-beast” also suits to these creatures as their body is perfectly fit to glide up to 3230 feet. Their tail and limbs are attached with the loose skin that increases the surface area and make the gliding easier and higher.
9. Flying Phalangers
The cute Phalangers are also among the list of gliders as they really deserve to be because they can glide for about 50 to 150 feet in the air and produces sound like laughing with fairies and are called as sugar gliders. They actually belong to Australian subfamily of possum.
10. Flying Squirrels
Squirrels can glide swiftly and perfectly in the air and can cover about 288 feet in a single jump. They can fly from one tree trunk to another. They are indeed the world record holder for flying animals and are normally called as fliers.
